Scope and Contents
This collection comprises minutes, correspondence, memorandums, course and curriculum proposals, publications, and reports that document the activities of the Faculty Senate, now known as the College Senate.
The Committee Records Series (1968-2002) contains minutes, memorandums, correspondence, materials for review at meetings, and recommendations to the Faculty Senate, Board of Trustees and College Cabinet. The bulk of the collection consists of the course and curriculum proposals that were submitted to the Curriculum Committee for review and approval. These files are organized alphabetically by program name or course abbreviation.
General Meeting Minutes and Supporting Documents (1966-2002) include meeting minutes, memorandums, committee recommendations, and reports. The materials document the Faculty Senate’s activities related to topics such as academic policies; senate membership eligibility; student grading, especially the use of I and W grades; faculty grievance procedures; sexism on campus; tenure policy; fringe benefits; campus expansion; mediation; and faculty workload. Additional subjects, including the Fall Faculty Conference, are documented in the Subject Files Series (1967-1998, undated).
The Publications Series (1971-1979, 1989-1998) includes the Senate newsletter, which was started in 1971 and had two different names, and a handbook for incoming members of the Faculty Senate.

Administrative History
The Faculty Senate was formed in 1966 as a consultative body to serve the interests of the faculty of Central Piedmont Community College. The name of the senate was changed by a majority vote to the College Senate in April 2002 to better reflect the community of professional staff and faculty members who are officially represented by the organization.

Separated Materials
Minutes from the President’s Cabinet meetings were separated and transferred to the College Cabinet Records (AR.0005).
Materials created by the College Council were separated for further processing.
